Garden Nation: My Reference

Setup

  • Build the board randomly
  • Place turn tracker on side for the player count
  • Deal 4 secret missions to each player, they keep 2 (different ones), discard 2
  • First player starts with 38 population, all others 35
  • Floors to give players:
    • 2 players: 20
    • 3 players: 17
    • 4 players: 14

Game

First action of the game can be anywhere.

  • On your turn perform 1 (first player) or 2 (all other players) actions
  • Construct a building in the territory where the torticrane is
    • Optionally place a plot over a bramble space first. It stays there for the rest of the game.
    • Inhabitant Cost = Plot cost + 1 per floor already present
    • If a Common objective is completed as a result of the construction
      • place a roof on the floor that was just constructed
      • claim the objective card
      • move on the score tracker
      • deal a new common project card
    • Move the torticrane to the corresponding territory
  • Abandon a building in the territory where the torticrane is
    • Return floors to player supply (and roof, if there is one, to game supply)
    • Increase population as shown on player aid (it’s double total construction cost)
    • Move the torticrane to the corresponding territory
  • Choose next player and put their piece on the next slot
  • If a player can’t build and can’t/doesn’t want to abandon, they can play in the next territory in numerical order

End of Round

  • Once all players have taken their turn, perform territory control scoring
  • For each territory, in ascending order, determine who has most floors present in the territory
    • Winner receives 2 extra into their population.
    • If a draw, all players involved gain 1 extra into their population
  • Last player is now first player (they get 3 turns all in a row)

During the game

  • A building with a roof
    • can’t be added to
    • can’t be used for objectives (apart from territory control secret missions)
    • can be abandoned
    • can be invaded
    • can have it’s roof transferred
  • You have 4 ploy tokens to use during the course of the game.
    • You may use 1 ploy token per action.
    • Ploy Token Actions available:
      • Strategic Movement (free action)
        • Move the torticrane to another territory, within 1 numerically
      • Roof Transfer (free action)
        • Move a roof from one of your buildings to another of your buildings
      • Building Invasion (replaces action, not a free action)
        • Attacking player pays the total construction cost x2 (as per player board reference)
        • Defending player gains the total construction cost x2 (as per player board reference)
        • Return defending players floors to their supply (and roof, if there is one, to game supply)
        • Place attacking player floors in same place (without roof, if there was one)
        • Common objectives may be scored as normal at this point
        • Move torticrane to the corresponding territory

End Game Scoring

  • Game end is triggered by a player constructing their last floor at any point (i.e. even if they get floors back in their second action).
  • Current round is finished, including territory control.
  • End game scoring:
    • Score secret missions
    • Score population

Tie breaker: number of blocks on the board, then the number of roofs
